Diljit Singh Dosanjh is a superstar and singer of the Punjabi and Hindi film industry. Born on 6 January 1984 in Dosanjh Kalan village, Jalandhar, Punjab, Diljit’s real name is Daljit. His father, Balbir Singh, was an employee of Punjab Roadways, while his mother, Sukhwinder, was a housewife. The financial condition of the family was not very good. Diljit was not good at studies, so he got inclined toward singing. He studied to the 10th standard while staying in Ludhiana. He trained in Indian classical music at the local Gurudwara Sahib and started doing Kirtan. Everyone liked Diljit’s voice while singing Kirtan, so people encouraged him to sing outside. After the Gurudwara sahib, Diljit started singing at weddings and ceremonies. In 2004, Daljit released his first album, ‘Ishq Da Uda Adda.’ During this time, he changed his name from Daljit to Diljit. He debuted in 2011 with the film The Lion of Punjab, but the film flopped, but one of his songs was a superhit, and for the first time a non-Bollywood singer’s song reached the top in BBC’s Asian Download Chart. He entered Bollywood in 2016 with the film ‘Udta Punjab.’ After this, he acted in Phillauri, Soorma, Arjun Patiala, Good News, and Sooraj Pe Mangal Bhari. During the lockdown, he released his music album ‘G.O.A.T. It is said about Diljit that he is the first Sardar who has started working in Bollywood without leaving his identity. People used to advise him that he would not get any role because of the turban. To this he says that he may or may not get any role, but he will never leave his identity. Diljit is called Urban Pendu by his fans. Urban means city, and pendu means village. Fans consider him a mixture of urban and rural. Diljit does not do so well in English. Once he was not able to give an interview to Vogue magazine in London due to this reason. In 2017, Diljit said that if he had not been successful in the music industry, he would have been working in a factory.
